The link to the custom of photos of the recently deceased...odd. I confess a curiosity to eventually continuing my research of previous customs, beliefs and practices surrounding imminent death, memorial services, mourning, burial and grieving. I wish I had been able to ask my grandmother why it was so important for her to photograph the coffins of those she loved, sometimes the graves. I know why she kissed the faces of her loved ones during the "viewing"... my mom said she told her that she wanted to make sure they were dead. I speculate that the photos and kissing were also things that helped her in her grieving process. Such is my maundering this morning.
