Dark chocolate pistachio covered toffee. That is all.

The urban ponies across the street were looking especially picturesque today.

Where'z my snack? Useless human.

Cats are not big on relativity. Fie on our irksome monkey ways, arbitrarily deciding that dinner shall be an hour later! Not that they complain about breakfast being an hour earlier...

In this case, I agree with them. Daylight savings always messes me up!

Snow light

The light is amazing right now—bright from the brilliance of reflective snow, occasionally crossed by crow shadows.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. The wisteria vine and camellia bush by the front porch are absolutely chock full of about 30 of the small brown bird known as bushtits (I am not making that up). They are busy shaking water out of their tails, wings, etc., grooming, fluffing, and generally being adorable.

Temp has gone up a little, it has stopped actively snowing, and large clumps of snow are falling off of bushes. Still, this was a solid enough snow that I think it'll be around for a few days. It the temp goes down in a hurry that bit of melt could turn into a slippery mess.

Snow!!

Wow! Got up this morning and it is really snowing--not piddly little sprinklings but great fat white beautiful heapings of snow! We hardly ever get snow like this here, which is perfect... helps keep it an enjoyable event. It is gorgeous and magical outside (well, not magical if you have to travel, but happily I don't today). However, the cats would like a word.

'Tis the season when hordes of birds such as robins and waxwings descend upon our yard to eat the holly and other winter berries... which means that several times daily the office windows are lined with chattering cats making the helpless "ack-ack-ack" sound of frustrated feline desire for prey. I wonder if anyone has ever studied when and why cats make that seemingly involuntary noise?

Some awesome photos from a geog prof who kayaked the Country Fair site. (It's a flood plain, so the whole area is usually partly underwater in the winter--looks about 2-3 feet deep here.) I really want to do this someday.

At last...

I have discovered my true purpose in life: I am a towel for cats. One by one they come in, sopping, and prance all over me and the desk.

It is fiercely wet and wild and dark outside. Rarely have I seen such a convincing argument for hibernation.
