Alternate alternate realities

Wow, is this thing dusty... words still escape me (where is that butterfly net?), so let's start with some pictures from the latest Oregon Country Fair...

Having accessioned several former parking lots, the ever-evolving Fair amoeba (you certainly can't call it an '8' anymore) oozed into a lovely new area with lots of open space and many delights devoted purely to fun, beauty, and relaxation...

Giant prayer wheels made from metal storage drums, attractively housed...

...and smaller ones made from coffee cans!

The Fair really defines 'vernacular architecture.'  Here's a nice use of sculpted fence tops, flying pigs, and an incredible piece of natural found wood.

This is now one of my favorite booths in the entire fair.  Absolutely spectacular use of salvaged wood!

Another beautiful log becomes a comfy bench...

I really wish I could afford some of these handsome hand-forged garden tools...

...not to mention these ingenious fire cooking accessories!

As usual, lots of people were striving hard to be ridiculous (and succeeding marvelously)...

A delectable scene of indolence in the new 'living room', with piano accompaniment.

I don't think this sculpture is quite successful (I actually find it kind of creepy), but I love the cautionary sign:

Not sure what it is, but it's shiny...

Wheelbarrow Of The Gods!  Why?  Why not???

Elements of an Earth Mandala created with bark, shells, rocks, flowers, bones, feathers, twigs, etc...

An entire dance floor and pavilion devoted to group dancing of a more formal sort than the usual thrash and twirl!  It went on all day, and everyone looked like they were having a blast.

I really, really, REALLY want one of these onion dome caves.  There was a long line just to hang out in them!

Multi-colored streamers allow people to walk through a fluttering rainbow...

...and sway enchantingly in the breeze.

Then, at night, one of those "who needs drugs?" experiences unfolds, in the form of giant glowing color-shifting inflated fabric space artichokes...

...and a... goat ...popsicle?

It appears to be made of layered and formed saran wrap.

Back in daylight, I encountered...
A most excellent chicken hat.

Hilarious stilt walker schtick:  geriatric hippies (an all too pertinent reality; I saw more Fair elders in scooters, walkers, and wheelchairs than ever this year)

As usual, the kids' loop has some of the best toys:

These signs appeared throughout the Fair, variously annotated...

...and the Sauna architecture continues to amaze.

totem pole in progress (still fundraising).

Meanwhile, at Jill's Crossing, a very tall flock of Monarch Butterflies swoops through...

...and gallops off into the sunset.

How 'bout them kumquats?
